sad [Oct. 4th, 2007|11:59 pm]
If you dont live in Charlotte, this won't mean much to you. If you do, you'll know how sad this is. I don't really have any other words for it.

Two killed in shooting at Dilworth eatery
Suspect charged with murder in deaths of former bosses at Moe’s

A man who’d been fired from Moe’s Southwest Grill went into the Dilworth restaurant just after lunchtime Thursday and fatally shot two of his former bosses, police said.

A Mecklenburg sheriff’s deputy who’d been escorting a funeral procession past the restaurant captured and held the suspected gunman.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police would not talk about a motive, but said Derrick Lamont Gregory, 28, was fired from Moe’s two or three weeks ago. He worked there about a month.

Gregory is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of assistant manager Jeffrey Philip Maher, 34, and managing partner Vincent Patrick Ferens, 36.

About a dozen customers were inside the East Boulevard restaurant just before the 2:45 p.m. shootings. None of them were injured.

Some customers ran to the FedEx Kinko’s store next door and locked themselves inside. Others huddled behind parked cars.

The deputy was flagged down by a customer who ran outside and told him someone inside had a gun, said Maj. Walter Pummell, with the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office. The deputy approached the restaurant with his gun drawn as shots rang out from inside the store, witnesses said.

Robert Dees, who was working at Dikadee’s Deli across the street from Moe’s, said he saw a man sprint out the side door of the restaurant. The deputy ordered the man to lie on his stomach and held him there until backup arrived, Dees said.

When officers went inside, Maher was already dead. Ferens died later at nearby Carolinas Medical Center. Police said both had been shot more than once.

It’s unclear how long they worked for Moe’s. A neighbor said Ferens was married and had children. A friend said Maher was from Arizona and used to work at a deli on Providence Road in south Charlotte.

Several people who work in nearby businesses said a fight broke out at the restaurant two weeks ago; at least two people said Gregory was involved. Police records show officers were called to the restaurant for a disturbance at 2:28 p.m. on Sept. 13, but the responding officer didn’t make a report.

After the shooting, police interviewed employees and other witnesses at the police station. Police cars brought them back to the restaurant about 6 p.m. Officers went into the building and brought purses to two women. They took a set of car keys and drove one car out of the roped-off parking lot for its owner. A woman in a turquoise Moe’s T-shirt wept as she drove away. The employees weren’t the only ones shaken up.

Frank McKinney, who works in the Key Man Building across the street and had lunch at Moe’s, said he left the restaurant about 20 minutes before the shots rang out. He stood on the sidewalk across from the restaurant shaking his head as a police crime scene truck pulled up.

“The ice hasn’t even melted in my cup yet,” McKinney said after the shooting. “I just left there.”

FINALLYYYYY [Sep. 27th, 2007|05:17 pm]
'Project Runway' gets premiere date
Zap2it.com
The long wait for "Project Runway" fans -- for both the show's fourth season and the announcement of a premiere date -- is over.

Bravo revealed during Wednesday's "Top Chef," and confirmed with a press release Thursday, that its flagship competition series will return Wednesday, Nov. 14. That's just about 13 months after the third-season finale aired on Oct. 18, 2006.

"It is very exciting to be going into our fourth season of 'Project Runway,' and I think it will be the best season yet -- I'm sure the audience will enjoy it," host and executive producer Heidi Klum says. "Fashion is such a difficult business, and besides being great TV, we're proud that the show allows some very talented designers to have a platform."

Klum will once again be joined on the show by mentor Tim Gunn -- who now has his own Bravo series -- and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. This season's 15 designers will be vying for a feature spread in Elle, a $100,000 cash prize and the chance to sell their designs at online retailer Bluefly.com. The winner also gets a new car.

"Project Runway" is Bravo's highest-rated series; it averaged 3.4 million viewers during its third season. The season-three finale drew 5.4 million viewers, the biggest audience in Bravo's history.

[mood | sore but very happy]

I DID IT!!!!

I ran my 5k this morning.

I did it in my fastest time ever! (beat my previous time by 4 minutes!)

Beat my bossman = $100 for me! (and everyone else that beat him)

It was so great, i think we are going to do another one April 28th.

I really hated life the whole time i did it but it makes me feel healthy. I said all along that i was going to go drink and finally enjoy beer again after running, yeah i drank water all night when we went out. it's not worth it. i'm working wayyyy to hard to shed the pounds - i hate wasting it on beer. don't get me wrong, i'll still drink sometimes just not every night i go out.

My muscles couldnt be more sore. My calves are still on fire and probably will be worse in the morning. I hope one day i get better at running but for now, i'll just keep doing my thing and hope it becomes an easy thing to do one day.

So yay for me... i NEVER thought i would go run for fun. craziness!!

I still love my blue devils.. no matter what! I'm just a little tired of rebuilding.

8 weeks!!! [Jan. 17th, 2007|12:26 am]
[mood | crazy]

GUESS WHAT!!!!!

I am running a 5k in 8 weeks!! and i can get $100 for it!
March 10th is D-day!

Training started today.

how did this happen? well, you see what had happened was...

we were talking at work today and the idea came up for us to do it. we found one to run and i wasnt taking it seriously, then i thought, well if the boys are gonna do it i'm way to stubborn to sit it out. so we made it a fun thing. plus, i'm working on getting in shape and if this doesn't do it i dont know what will.

the $100 ? .. well main bossman said that anyone from the office that beats him will get $100 cash. that is motivation enough to not only do this but do it well. i dont run - at all. really, ive never been good at it even in elementary school having to run the mile.

i am going to really work hard and see what i can do! wish me luck!!!

this is going to be the toughest 3.1 miles of my life.. but i can do it!! just think about me! :)

"And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts,
and presents aren't promises.
You begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman,
not the grief of a child.
You learn to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden,
and decorate your own soul,
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure,
you really are strong,
you really do have worth.
and you learn,
and you learn,
with every goodbye, you learn..."

I guess this means we will have to stay in sometimes and watch tv like the rest of the world... ohhh so exciting...

Back to finishing Super Size Me... this movie is like Biggest Loser...such great motivation to never eat that gross stuff. I don't eat at McDonalds in the first place but maybe this will gross me out enough that i wont go to any fast food (except Chick Fil A.. let's not get crazy)

I really can't wait to see this movie...

People in life tell me that if you want something in life, then you have to work for it, and the things that mean the most to you, you will have to experience, pain, joy, love and struggle in order to get it. following your heart is something that cannot be taught, something that cannot be explained to you, being able to trust yourself and to be able go with what you feel is real to you is a very difficult task. You are going to go through times that you are a bit sad and then you will find sometimes where you are going to be glad. Living in the moment is something that people struggle to do everyday, not living in the past and planning for the future, but being able to focus on the situation that you are dealing with right then. I don't know what the future will hold, I don't where i will be 5 years from now, I don't know where i will be 10 years from now, I don't know if i am going to be able to feel the same way i do right at the present moment, but one thing i do know is that i am going to find out what make me smile, not just me smile , but also what makes my heart smile and what makes my mind smile and what makes my soul smile, finding two heartbeats and making them one, understanding i am going to be on pursuit to find happiness, day in and day out for the rest of my life and i feel that when i do that, then that day will be the day that i can stand up and truly say I AM HAPPY.
